Fiber cement rarely fails. Its installers sometimes do.
Cracked corners, chipped edges, and failed joints repaired to manufacturer spec by a crew certified on the material.

Fiber cement earns its reputation. It doesn’t rot, doesn’t burn, shrugs off woodpeckers, and holds paint longer than wood ever will. So when a fiber cement wall needs repair, the cause is usually one of three things: a real impact like a falling limb or a mower stone, a joint or flashing detail that was never right, or an original install that ignored the written spec. All three are fixable, and fixing them correctly is exactly the kind of work a certified crew should be doing.
Our fiber cement siding repair covers cracked and chipped boards, broken corners, failed caulk joints, blown-out face nails, water staining at butt joints, and damage around penetrations. Boards that need to come out get cut out cleanly and replaced with matched stock, fastened and flashed the way the manufacturer’s installation guide says, so the repair doesn’t void the warranty that makes this material worth owning.
We’re certified installers on James Hardie and LP SmartSide, and we repair every major fiber cement brand across Lansing, East Lansing, Okemos, St. Johns, Grand Ledge, Owosso, and the rest of mid-Michigan. Licensed, insured, our own crew, and honest about whether your wall needs surgery or just a caulk gun in trained hands.

Repairing to spec is what keeps the warranty alive.
Fiber cement is unforgiving of improvisation. It wants specific clearances off roofs and grade, specific fasteners driven flush and not overdriven, sealed cut edges, and joints treated exactly the way the installation guide draws them. An original crew that ignored those details leaves a wall that fails young, and a repair crew that ignores them turns a small fix into a future problem.
We repair to the written spec because we install to it. Certified crews sit through the manufacturer’s training and get audited on the details, which means we know what a correct butt joint, clearance gap, and fastener schedule look like without guessing.
The spec is written down. A repair either follows it or plants the next failure.
That matters most on the repairs we see over and over: staining at joints where flashing was skipped, cracked boards where nails were driven too hard into unsupported spans, and chipped bottom edges where the original crew cut corners on clearances and the boards have been wicking splashback ever since.
Small cosmetic damage often doesn’t need surgery at all. Chips and hairline surface cracks on a sound board take a proper cementitious patch and finish touch-up. We’ll always tell you which category your damage is in, because a patch priced honestly beats a board swap you didn’t need.

Done the honest way.
Certified hands
Factory-trained on James Hardie and LP SmartSide, which is exactly the knowledge a repair needs: clearances, fasteners, joints, and flashing.
Cut clean, not pried
Fiber cement comes out with the right blades and technique. Prying and hammering cracks the neighbors and doubles the repair.
Finish that matches
ColorPlus and factory finishes get manufacturer touch-up. Field-painted walls get feathered repaint. Either way the repair stops being visible.
Patch, plank, or bigger? Reading fiber cement damage.
A chip from a mower stone or a hairline crack on one board is patch territory. Fiber cement takes cementitious patching well, and with factory touch-up or a feathered repaint the spot disappears. This is the cheapest repair we do on the material and we’re happy to keep it that way.
A board cracked through, a broken corner, or crumbling around fasteners means that plank comes out. Done with the right tools it’s clean surgery: neighbors stay intact, the new board goes in on the correct fastener schedule, joints get sealed and flashed, finish gets matched.
Repeating damage is the flag that something structural is wrong with the install. Cracks marching along a wall at nail lines mean overdriven fasteners or missing support. Staining below multiple joints means flashing was skipped wall-wide. In those cases we’ll show you photos of what’s causing it and price the correction honestly, because patching symptoms of a bad install is a subscription, not a repair.
And if a storm did the damage, document before you patch. Hail rarely breaks fiber cement, but limbs and wind-driven debris do, and a properly documented claim can owe you the full repair. We photograph it the way adjusters need it.

Fiber cement repair across mid-Michigan.
Fiber cement has been the premium re-side choice in our area for two decades, so Okemos, Haslett, East Lansing, and the newer subdivisions around Grand Ledge and DeWitt carry a lot of it. Most of it is aging well. The repair calls we get cluster around impact damage, joints that were never flashed, and fastener problems from installs that beat the material instead of following it.
Michigan’s freeze-thaw is patient with fiber cement but merciless with bad details. A joint that takes on water in November spends the winter prying itself apart. That’s why our repairs fix the detail, not just the board, and why we photograph what we find so you can see the difference.
From Lansing out to Ionia and Howell, the visit is the same: a free look, an honest patch-or-plank call, and a written price. If the wall is fine and the damage is cosmetic, we’ll tell you that too.
Straight answers about fiber cement repair.
No hedging. Here’s the plain version of what homeowners ask us most, and you can see finished work in our gallery.
Can cracked fiber cement be patched, or does the board need replacing?
Depends on the crack. Chips and hairline surface damage on a sound board take a legitimate cementitious patch plus finish touch-up. A board cracked through its body, broken at a corner, or crumbling at fasteners needs to come out. We tell you which one you have and price both honestly.
Will a repair void my James Hardie warranty?
A repair done to the written spec doesn’t, and that’s the point of using a certified crew. Wrong fasteners, unsealed cuts, and improvised joints are what create warranty arguments. We repair the way the installation guide says, and document what we did.
Why is my fiber cement cracking along the nail lines?
That pattern almost always means the original fasteners were overdriven or the board wasn’t supported where it was nailed. The material didn’t fail, the install did. We fix the affected boards and correct the fastening so the cracking stops spreading.
Can you match my ColorPlus or factory finish color?
Yes. Manufacturers make touch-up and repair kits for their factory finishes, and we keep the process honest: small repairs get factory touch-up, larger ones get color-matched finish feathered in. If your color has weathered enough that a perfect blend isn’t realistic, we say so up front.
There’s staining under my siding joints. Is that serious?
It’s water getting past a joint that should have flashing behind it, and yes, it’s worth taking seriously before the sheathing pays for it. The repair is usually straightforward: open the joint, flash it the way the spec draws it, reseal, and touch up. Catching it early is the whole game.
Do you repair brands other than James Hardie?
Yes. The certifications are Hardie and LP, but fiber cement repair technique carries across brands, and we work on all of them. What changes brand to brand is the finish matching, and we’ll tell you honestly how close we can get on yours.
How fast can you get to a fiber cement repair?
Damage with an open water path jumps the queue, and we’ll get a temporary seal on quickly if weather is coming. Cosmetic repairs get scheduled like normal work with a written price and a real date. Either way the free look comes first and costs nothing.
My house has fiber cement from a builder. Should anything be checked?
Worth one free look, yes. Builder-grade installs vary a lot, and ten minutes tells us whether your clearances, joints, and fastening were done right. If they were, you’ll hear exactly that. If not, catching a missing kick-out flashing early is dramatically cheaper than finding it through drywall stains.
