Fiber cement siding replacement with stone accents by Anchor Siding LLC in mid-Michigan

Most fiber cement jobs we do aren’t new construction. They’re replacements: a homeowner tired of vinyl that cracks every hailstorm, or wood that wants paint again, deciding that the next wall will be the last one they buy. Replacing into fiber cement is exactly the right instinct, as long as the job underneath is done as seriously as the board on top.

Our fiber cement siding replacement is the whole system. We tear off the old siding, inspect and repair the sheathing, rebuild the moisture barrier and every piece of flashing, and then install the new fiber cement, James Hardie included, to certified spec: correct fasteners, held clearances, sealed cuts, flashed joints. The result is a wall that’s tougher than the house around it.

We do this work across Lansing, East Lansing, Okemos, St. Johns, Grand Ledge, Owosso, and the rest of our mid-Michigan service area. Licensed, insured, never subcontracted. And if your current siding honestly has years left in it, we’ll say so and you can call us when it’s time.

The last siding decision you should have to make.

The case for replacing into fiber cement is simple: stop buying walls. Vinyl that cracks, wood that wants constant coating, both of them put you back on the ladder or back in the checkbook on a cycle. Fiber cement is the exit from that cycle, which is why it’s what we recommend when a homeowner tells us they’re done thinking about siding.

The replacement itself is where our discipline earns its keep. Tear-off exposes everything the old wall was hiding, and we deal with all of it: soft sheathing replaced, old leak paths traced, framing checked. You get photos of what we found, not a vague line item.

Buy the wall once, buy it right, and stop thinking about siding for good.

Then the water management gets built new. Barrier, kick-out flashing where roofs meet walls, head flashing over openings, joint flashing behind seams. Fiber cement is a decades-long wall, so everything behind it has to be built to the same horizon.

The install itself runs to certified spec by our own crew. Correct fasteners at correct depth, clearances held at every edge, cut ends sealed. When we hand it back, the warranty is intact and the wall is honestly the most durable part of the house.

Replacing vinyl or wood with fiber cement: what changes.

Coming off vinyl, the first thing you’ll notice is the flatness and weight of the wall. Fiber cement lies dead flat, the shadow lines are crisper, and the house stops having that faint ripple vinyl walls show in low sun. You’ll also stop flinching at hail forecasts. The panel that used to crack is now a board that doesn’t care.

Coming off wood, the change is in the calendar. The re-coat cycle stretches from every few years to every decade or more, the woodpeckers and carpenter ants lose interest entirely, and the bottom courses stop wicking and peeling. You keep the painted-wood look, the crisp lap lines, the trim details. You lose the maintenance treadmill.

Structurally, fiber cement is heavier than either, which is a labor question during install, not a problem for your house. Standard framed walls carry it without any modification. The board’s stiffness is actually part of why it looks so good: it doesn’t telegraph the small waves in old sheathing the way thin siding does.

If your old siding was hiding moisture damage, the switch is even more worth it, because the repairs happen once and the new wall system protects them for decades. The free look is where we tell you what we expect to find and what the whole path costs.

Fiber cement replacement across mid-Michigan.

Most of our fiber cement replacement calls come from two kinds of mid-Michigan homeowners: the ones whose vinyl has been through one hailstorm too many, common on the open west-facing exposures around St. Johns, Grand Ledge, and Owosso, and the ones whose wood siding wants paint again and who’ve decided that cycle ends now.

Tear-off in this housing stock regularly turns up history: old cedar under vinyl, patched sheathing, flashing improvised decades ago. That’s not a problem, it’s the reason we tear off. Everything gets found, photographed, and fixed while the wall is open, and the new fiber cement goes onto a wall built to match its lifespan.

From Lansing and East Lansing to Ithaca, Ionia, and the towns between, you get the same job: certified installation, real flashing, and paperwork that keeps the warranty enforceable.

Straight answers about fiber cement replacement.

Short, honest answers to the common questions. To see what the finished job looks like, visit our gallery.

Is it worth replacing vinyl siding with fiber cement?

If you plan to stay in the house and you’re tired of storm damage and replacement cycles, usually yes. You trade panel cracking, fading, and wavy walls for a board that ignores hail and holds paint for a decade-plus. If you’re selling soon, new vinyl may be the smarter spend, and we’ll say so.

Can my walls support fiber cement’s weight?

Yes. Fiber cement is heavier than vinyl or wood, but standard framed walls carry it without any modification. The weight is our crew’s problem on install day, not your house’s problem afterward.

Do you tear off the old siding first?

Always. Fiber cement needs a flat, sound, properly flashed wall to reach its lifespan, and tear-off is the only way to inspect and rebuild what’s underneath. We photograph what we find and fix it before the new wall goes on.

How much does fiber cement siding replacement cost?

It’s the premium path: tear-off, wall repairs, new barrier and flashing, and the material itself. The number depends on home size, hidden damage, and trim complexity, so we put a firm written price together after a free look, with the alternatives priced honestly beside it.

How disruptive is the replacement work?

Expect roughly a week of crew presence on a typical home: tear-off, wall work, then installation. It’s outdoor work, your house stays livable throughout, and we clean the site every evening. You’ll have a real schedule before we start, kept by our own crew.

Does the manufacturer warranty transfer if I sell the house?

Product warranties on major fiber cement lines are transferable to a new owner, which is a genuine selling point. We register the installation properly and leave you the paperwork, so the warranty is real and provable when it matters.

Can you match fiber cement to the look my house has now?

Almost always. Fiber cement comes in lap widths, shingle looks, and panel styles that cover most Michigan home styles, in factory finishes or field-painted in any color. We’ll bring samples to the free look and hold them against your house.

Can you replace only the weather side with fiber cement?

We can, and on hard-worn west and south exposures it’s sometimes the pragmatic move. The trade-off is a material seam at the corners, which we detail cleanly and color-match. We’ll tell you honestly whether the partial or the full re-side is the better long-term money for your house.
